Program Description Provided by the Institution:
Our program provides students with a variety
of psychodynamic training experiences. There is a required introductory course that covers psychodynamic theories of personality,
psychopathology, and psychotherapy. This course surveys a range of psychodynamic “schools,” from classic to contemporary
relational theories. Theoretical concepts are illustrated with video recordings of real assessment and treatment sessions.
The required projective assessment course includes a psychodynamic perspective. Elective courses are available that cover
personality theories including a psychodynamic perspective and an advanced seminar in psychodynamic theories and concepts.
A short-term therapy two course sequence is available that emphasizes psychodynamic approaches as well as a treatment model
that integrates psychodynamic, interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, and emotion-focused concepts, principles, and technical
strategies. Treatment models are amply illustrated with real therapy sessions. The advanced short-term dynamic therapy course
involves the intensive analysis of several cases from the Hans H. Strupp Psychotherapy Archive and Research Center, which
is located on the campus. The Center encourages students to conduct research-informed case studies, including a psychodynamic
perspective.
